ABOUT JAN KATH
JAN KATH IS ONE OF THE WORLD'S MOST DEMANDED HAND-KNOTTED RUG DESIGNERS. IT DELIBERATELY BREAKS FROM CONVENTIONAL STYLES AND THROUGH STRICT DESIGN RULES OVERBOARD. The man from Bochum does not hesitate to combine classic elements of the oriental rug with a contemporary and minimalist design. Another major theme of her current work concerns the interpretation of photorealistic patterns in textile art, which Kath is perfecting with her carpet weavers in the workshops of Kathmandu (Nepal). INSPIRED BY MANY TRAVELS TO DYNAMIC CITIES AND ESPECIALLY BY HIS HERITAGE RUHR WITH ITS ARCHAIC INDUSTRIAL CULTURE, JAN KATH RAPIDLY DEVELOPED HIS DISTINCTIVE SIGNATURE WHICH ABSOLUTELY DEFINES STYLE. His rugs have won numerous awards (Red Dot, Carpet Design Award, and many others) and are often exhibited in art and design museums (notably the Museum für angewandte Kunst in Frankfurt, the Art Museum in the Riga Stock Exchange, and the Beijing International Design Triennial).
